My Safety Plan

A plan you make now, while you're steady, so you know exactly what to do if things get hard. Fill it in with your clinician, keep it somewhere easy to reach, and use it in order.

1 · My Warning Signs

Thoughts, feelings, images, or situations that tell me a crisis may be building:

🧘

2 · Things I Can Do on My Own

Coping steps that take my mind off the crisis — without needing anyone else (walk, music, shower, breathing, a show, a pet):

👥

3 · People & Places That Distract Me

People or social settings that help me feel better (I don't have to talk about the crisis):

Person / place — how to reach them

📞

4 · People I Can Ask for Help

People I trust enough to tell that I'm struggling:

Name — phone

🏥

5 · Professionals & Crisis Lines

My clinician / on-call number

Local urgent care / ER

988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline — call or text 988 (24/7)
Crisis Text Line — text HOME to 741741
Emergency — call 911 or go to the nearest ER

🔒

6 · Making My Environment Safer

Steps to put distance between me and anything I could use to harm myself (lock up or give away medications and firearms, remove other means):

7 · My Reasons for Living

The people, goals, and things that matter to me and are worth staying for:

If you are in immediate danger of acting on thoughts of suicide, call or text 988, call 911, or go to the nearest emergency room now. A safety plan is a support, not a substitute for emergency help.
